THE AUTHENTIC JAPANESE FURNITURE has selected its suppliers among the few furniture craftsmen remaining today in Japan. They obviously focus on designing and making furniture for the most demanding customers, who are looking for top quality furniture.

Our whole furniture is made in Japan, by our craftsmen-suppliers based in the Japan furniture birthplaces:

  • TôhokuTôhoku
    Region in the North of Japan, birthplace of tansu crafting
    area, North of Japan, particularly around SendaiSendai
    City: Sendai, prefecture: Miyagi, region: Tôhoku
    and NihonmatsuNihonmatsu
    City: Nihonmatsu, region: Tôhoku
    , cities valued for their tansutansu

    . Tough winters have shaped the famous AizuAizu
    Aizuwakamatsu surroundings, region : Tôhoku

    Zelkova (Japanese elm), very dense wood, with beautiful wood grain, used in Japan for premium wooden goods
    -trees which are used in our furniture.

 eras. Each supplier hand crafts between 100 and 200 tansutansu

require up to 4 month worth of work. When you visit our craftsmen’s workshop, it is like going back in the past. The electric lighting is one of the few modern equipments, among the traditional tools.

Finally, as for antique furniture, we have selected a few suppliers in Japan for their knowledge of antiques, their product offer, and their ability to repair the furniture with traditional techniques when necessary.

Here are pictures that we took in our craftsmen's workshops. You can see that our craftsmen are as passionate in 2012 as their ancestors were during MeijiMeiji

 era, and also that technics remain traditional. This is definitely not an industrial manufacturing, and you can confirm the high quality material they are using. You can feel the Mingei spirit, with the material (wood, lacquer, steel) the craftsmen, the tool and the "objet" forming one whole, and none of them would make sense on its own.
